What we collect (on this site)
- No accounts. Cockroach has no sign-up, no login, no password reset, no profile. There is nothing for us to leak.
- We don't sell your personal data.We may use analytics tools to understand how the site is performing, and we may run advertising. Where those tools set cookies or collect usage information, it's covered by this policy and the relevant provider's own privacy policy.
- Privacy-respecting visit analytics.We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers in aggregate. It sets no cookies and does not build a profile of you across sites — that's why there's no cookie-consent banner.
- Basic hosting logs.Our host (Vercel) keeps standard server logs — IP address, request URL, user-agent, timestamp — used for security and abuse prevention. These are not used to build a profile of you and are retained under the host's own retention policies.
- Following.The channels you follow are saved in your browser. If — and only if — you choose to create a 4-word sync code to back them up or use them on another device, we store an anonymous list of those channels against that code. There's no name, email, or anything that identifies you tied to it — just the code and the list of channels. The code is the only key; we can't look it up for you, and abandoned codes are deleted after a year of non-use.
What other sites can see (via embeds)
Video pages embed players from YouTube, LBRY/Odysee, or other hosts. Once a video starts playing, those services see your IP, user-agent, and what you watched, under their privacy policies — not ours:
- For YouTube embeds, we use the
youtube-nocookie.comvariant where supported. - For LBRY-hosted videos, you can install the desktop LBRY/Odysee app and watch them peer-to-peer, bypassing our embed entirely.
- Browser-level tracker blockers (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger) work normally on Cockroach — we don't fight them.
Email contact
If you contact us via our webform, we'll reply from our inbox and keep your message so we can pick up the thread later. We don't add anyone to our mailing list without explicit opt-in.
Children
Cockroach is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If we change anything substantive about how we handle data, we'll update this page.
